What is an Ekolojia?
As consumers, people ask themselves daily questions such as “what would I like to eat?” or “what am I going to do today?” Although the questions themselves may seem insignificant, the choices people make about them can have a major impact the ecological well-being of the natural world.
The ecological footprint
- Analysis is a measure of human demand on the Earth's ecosystems and natural resources
- It compares human consumption of natural resources with planet Earth's ecological capacity to regenerate them.
- It is an estimate of the amount of biologically productive land and sea area needed to regenerate (if possible) the resources a human population consumes.
We’d like to develop a eco-footprint project consisting of a website that has educational and outreach resources designed to engage people in thinking about their eco-footprint. The website will provide the resources for individuals to find educational information and the opportunity for individuals to take specific action to counteract the effect of their ecological impact.
Goals
Ekologia's website and educational project has three overall goals.
- To raise awareness about the concept of an ecological footprint and help individuals consider and understand the ecological impact of their personal lifestyles.
- To provide a Social Networking and general recycling resource site to build community presence and awareness.
- To provide people the opportunity to take specific regenerative action(through donations to environmental projects in the Worldwide community inAmerica and beyond) to offset their ecological impact, without requiring drastic or immediate lifestyle changes. These action opportunities will also help to build the network between individuals and communities and existing ecology/conservation projects.
